Will WLCRS change anything on our network?

No — by design. WLCRS is strictly read-only. It uses a limited monitoring account on your Cisco 9800 controllers and never pushes configuration, never reboots access points, and never writes anything back to the network.

Does any of our data leave the building?

No. WLCRS runs entirely on a virtual machine inside your own network. The only outbound traffic is the alert notifications you explicitly configure, to destinations you control.

Which Cisco wireless controllers are supported?

WLCRS is purpose-built for the Cisco Catalyst 9800 family — the 9800-L, 9800-40, 9800-80 and CW9800M hardware controllers, and the virtual 9800-CL.

How does this compare to what we already have from Cisco?

Complementary, not a replacement. Cisco's own management platforms are strong at provisioning, policy and lifecycle management. WLCRS fills a different role: continuous wireless intelligence, operator-level alerting, long-term history and deep diagnostics.
